I took the above pics on October 17th. I can't remember exactly how much I weighed, but I'm guessing it was about 229 lbs. I re-entered my journey to weight loss after getting to my highest weight of 232 lbs this Summer, and I consistently stayed near that weight until I joined a gym and started lifting weights and doing cardio five days a week.

Most of us will openly say that we are interested in losing weight as a means to improve our health, eliminate disease, for increased longevity, stamina, energy . . . yada, yada, yada. Don't interpret the successive "yadas" to mean that those are not important reasons. Those are very valid reasons. But for many of us, the reason can be as vain simple as looking good in an outfit, or Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03259093208681097116noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291713632108605822.post-69693834342332320792013-10-21T09:45:00.000-05:002013-10-21T09:45:13.769-05:00Hand Holding
I think we all need support along the way. We need someone to lean on during this trial of weight loss. My friend had the best idea. We email each other almost daily and we both want to lose weight. She came up with the idea of doing weigh-ins that we report to each other weekly. I picked Mondays.
Why Monday? We always say that we'll do better on Monday. We'll start a new diet Monday. One of the things that I enjoy most, when I am trying to eat healthy, is to make soup. I make a big batch of soup in my crock pot. I then blend the soup in my blender until it is liquid. I jar the soup in manageable amounts and freeze.
I don't like chunky soups. I find it unappealing to eat chunks of bean and veggies. I just want to slurp a flavorful soup and call it a day. I have my own opinions as to why my mother has early onset dementia and now Alzheimer's at the age of 76. This week, the FDA has some new recommendations for the prescription of statins for high cholesterol. My mother has been on statins since the mid 1980s. I haven't been diligent with writing because I've been bingeing on sugar. Sugar is my enemy. Chocolate, specifically, is my drug. I've been exercising this week. Three days of 30 minutes of cardio with some strength training afterwards. This is a pic of me at my first 5K in October of 2009. I've been saying that I was at 207 lbs, but I think it was more like 212 lbs. Now that I am below 200, I'd like to give running a try again.

From Weight Loss
I got up early this morning to do cardio. I am getting back into working out, and today was the day. I realized a long time ago that I seem to have a disconnect between my eating plan and workout plan. I'll start working out and can't make myself eat better or less, or I'll eat better, but not work out enough or hard enough to make a loss on the scale.

For those of you who aren't into rap and hip hop, Fat Joe is a rapper from NY. He and I are around the same age. I grew up listening to his music in high school. When I was eating foods like that pictured above, I was constantly feeling the need to eat and eat and eat. I craved vast amounts of sugar. Binge eating was the norm. I got sick and tired of eating so much and not feeling full.

I also won't maintain the weight loss if I rush this process.
