Getting Ready . . .

Beach Summer '08

Last night, I set up my workout clothes to be ready for when the alarm rings at 4:50 a.m.  I was not going to allow myself to hit snooze or to change the time to wake me up at 5:50 a.m.  Nature took a different course and I woke up on my own at 4:25.  After a few minutes of figuring out that it made more sense just to get up than wait 25 minutes for the alarm to ring, I got up and dressed and hit downstairs to my spin bike, treadmill, and TV.

EXERCISE:

I started with 20 minute session on the spin bike.  I did a really simple routine of spinning while sitting, increasing resistance and spinning while standing, and back to sitting (etc.) until completion.  I then went to the living room where I put on 30 Day Shred and did Level I with 5 lb weights for the 25 minutes with no cool down.  Let me just say that 2 weeks of inconsistent-to-no-workouts makes for a very uncomfortable session.  I finished it and went back to the sun-room and got on the treadmill for a 15 minute fast walk.  Done!  60 minutes of a cardio circuit with some weight training and ab work.  Yahoo!

My plan is to do this 5 days a week. It would be better if I could actually do the 30 Day Shred portion as recommended: 10 days Level I, 10 days Level II, and 10 days Level III; along with my spinning and walking or jogging.  I want to get ready for our winter vacation, which comes around Christmas.  Typically, we go to a Bowl game with our job.  We aren't sure if we will make it to a Bowl game, but I want to be swimsuit ready for if I do.  I am presently weighing in at 204 lbs.  I want to get down to 165 by December 25. The weight loss calculator states that will happen more effectively by January 20.  We'll see.

I hope to do the same tomorrow, Saturday at 5:00 a.m. because we are committed to soccer and karate.  No race for me, but I will get 'em next year.  Sunday will be the same, and so on, and so on, and on.  I plan on doing 20 minutes of jogging on treadmill; 25 minutes of 30DS; and 20 minutes of Spinning.

NUTRITION:

I've been drinking Green Monsters for the past week.  Today's green monster consists of 1 c. almond milk; 2 c. spinach; 2 carrots; 1 kiwi; 1 tbsp peanut butter for protein; and 1 tbsp of honey.  Do an internet search for green smoothies or green monsters and you will find a bevy of drinks.  I've made others and will share a pic and recipe from the blogosphere.

Do you have a specific number of pounds to lose by a specific date?  What is your plan to achieve that?

  2. What time do you go to bed by, Rosa? I couldn't do the 4 a.m. thing--that's dedication!

My goal is to be 130 pounds by mid December. That's 2 pounds a week. But I might end up doing 10 pounds per month (2.5 pounds per week) instead of 8. I would reach my goal by the end of November! Crazy!

  3. Woo Hoo you go girl. My goal is to weigh 160 ish lbs too, but this time around, Im not putting any time frame on it. Right now, I'll be happy with getting down to 200 by my birthday in Sept, which I know is totally doable. Especially if I ever get back in the gym. Aren't the green monsters kind of addictive, once you get into them?

  4. Hi Alexia:
Last night was 10 p.m. Central time. I tend to go to bed no later than 10 p.m. If I am extremely tired from my day, then I will usually go to bed at 9 and fall asleep within 30 minutes. Don't forget, I am old and have 3 kids and a full time job that exhausts me. However, that also makes me wake up and get to working out. The only hard thing is actually leaving the warm bed to brave the cold air.

I like your goal. It is very doable. You are on the right track. Can't wait to read about your progress.

  5. Hi Lynda: Thank you. I like working out, so I have to make the time. And unfortunately, I've come to the realization that early mornings are the only time. I am zapped by the time the kids go to bed.

  6. I can't stop drinking green monsters. I am planning to make them everyday. I like having them because I know I have 1-3 servings of fruits and veggies in one drink. Then I make sure to have veggies and fruit throughout the other meals and snacks. I've felt lighter and it has seriously eliminated my "need" for lattes. A good thing that has replaced a "bad" one.

I like your goal. It sounds very doable. I can't wait to read about your progress.

  7. My goal is 135 by the end of the year, which is about a pound per month, but I don't know if I'll really do it or not. It's been a goal for two years now but I already work out like mad and eat fairly well. So I don't have any great ideas on how to take off the last few pounds and make them STAY gone.

  9. Thank you, Nona. I am recharged with my new specific goals. I don't know how long this will last, but I can say that I am striving for consistency.
